Our best pictures from 2025: weird and wonderful moments caught on camera

For me, one of the highlights of this year's photography for The Examiner was seeing three octogenarians compete in a penny farthing race.

Since 1983, the historic village of Evandale has taken a step back to yesteryear by hosting the National Penny Farthing Championships.

This year, the event drew riders and fans from around the world. Alan Sumner, 89, Peter Whitbourn, 81, and David Axon, 87, posed in the rain after pedalling their machines around the Evandale circuit.

Another special moment was when Constable Jason Stone helped deliver baby Nahal at the front entrance to the LGH. LGH emergency department nurse Jiya James was only 36 weeks pregnant when she and her family rushed to hospital in the early hours of January 29.

And being an old Valiant freak, it was great to meet old Barrington identity Del Curtis and see the Charger he is rebuilding. That opportunity came on a trip to visit Sheffield and do a lap of Lake Barrington.
