Ten yachts and their crews set sail for Hobart from Beauty Point on Saturday, all hoping to claim line honours in the Launceston to Hobart yacht race.

The small fleet will join competitors from the Sydney to Hobart and Melbourne to Hobart in their journey to the Derwent River.

Launceston to Hobart 2025

The Examiner's photographer Craig George was on the water at Beauty Point to take in the spectacular start to the yacht race under sunny blue skies.

In ideal conditions, the fastest yachts will cover the 285 nautical miles in less than 60 hours.

The event has been held every year since 2007, offering sailors the opportunity to spend Christmas at home while still getting to feel the energy around Hobart at this time of year and is open to yachts longer than 8.5 metres.

Last year's overall winner, Prion, is entered again and is looking to become the first back-to-back winners of the event's overall category.
