A historic property that has had just two owners over 130 years has just been sold as a fully restored home.

After sitting on the market for more than three months, Afton Brae at 42 Forest Road, Trevallyn, has sold.

The property was built in 1890, and remained the property of the builder's family until 1984, while the house itself sits within an extensive and well-established garden, both offering privacy and glimpses of the Tamar River that it sits above.

It was that view of the Tamar River and Launceston that led the original owners to build at the site, as well as Trevallyn's popularity growing among the professional community.

Now, the 225 square metre home stands as a great example of the federation period aesthetic, retaining many of the original architectural features of the time including the high ceilings, sash windows and decorative fireplaces.

Since its first sale, the property has been restored to its past glory, which was the main appeal for the new owners according to selling agent and historical property expert Dominic Romeo.

"It's one of those properties where you can just walk into and relax," Mr Romeo said.

"They are very keen gardeners, so that was appealing to them and the elevation of the property that overlooks the river to the city.

"I do come across buyers where they're looking for a restoration project ... but the appeal of this one was that it's a property you can enjoy.

"It's a good family home because it has good spacious rooms, it's five bedrooms with three bathrooms, so in terms of family living, it's perfect."

Mr Romeo added that the listing sold for more than the asking price of $1.35 million and that the sellers have turned their attention to restoring another historic home.

What else sold last week?
