"A thorough search of a protection establishment has commenced and is still ongoing," a statement from the Australian Federal Police, first reported by SBS, is understood to have said.

Police confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the community.

The Prime Minister is now understood to be staying at another location.

The threat, which is one of a series of escalated anger towards politicians in recent months, comes days after the Federal Police bomb squad was called to the Hyatt Hotel due to rocks being thrown through a window during a major Defence Force summit.

Mr Albanese participated in a live-streamed interview at The Lodge with broadcaster Karl Stefanovic just hours before the alleged incident. More than 41,500 people watched the interview, which attracted a barrage of negative comments about the Prime Minister, on Stefanovic's YouTube channel.

The Prime Minister's office was contacted for comment, but directed questions to the Australian Federal Police.

An AFP spokesperson said police responded to an "alleged security incident" at 6pm on Tuesday, February 24.

AFP completed a thorough search and nothing suspicious was located.

"There is no current threat to the community or public safety," the spokesperson said.

More to come.
