Northern Tasmania's newest IGA has opened its doors - but not without the full force of a family working together.

Customers were waiting outside the doors when Inveresk IGA opened for the first time at 7.30am on February 25.

The store is the result of two and half years of planning, and has combined the various talents of Cassey and Kemuel Wood's broader family.

Family member Tegan Watt said the early response from customers had been very positive.

"I've been out there chatting with customers and they're really excited to see something like this in this area - easy access, fresh focus, and the parking," she said.

"There's been lots of people involved, everyone's done their bit, it's been pretty phenomenal to watch. Watching everyone bring their strengths to the table has been really powerful."

The store has brought together strands from many different family enterprises.

The Pippa's Pantry range - healthy grab-and-go salad bowls that are made in-house daily - are inspired by the Woods' daughter, while an adjoining cafe is named after their son Charlie.

The store also features popular lines from Mrs Watt's Tasmania Shop stores in Campbell Town and St Helens, and flowers from Mrs Watt's daughter Billie.

Mrs Watt's husband will build the outdoor bench seats that will complete the Charlie's coffee and snack bar space, which will open in mid-March.

"Everyone in our family contributes something to make the whole," Mr and Mrs Woods said.

"We could not have done it without a magnificent team of tradies, team members, and family."

Mr Wood said the store's off-site butchery was another key point of difference.

"I think there's only about 10 in the state [with their own butcher]... Coles and Woolworths meat is all from Sydney and Melbourne," he said.

"So we've got local butcher quality meats at supermarket prices - better. We have our own local butchers making sausages and making burgers, all in house."

Inveresk IGA had about half its 60 staff members on site for the opening day.

The store is located at 51 Invermay Road, and opens from 7.30am to 7pm daily.
