The 2026 Launceston Cup has been run and won, and a Tasmanian-trained horse took home the win.

Asva, ridden by Jett Stanley and trained by Glenn Stevenson, won the 2400-metre Group 3 race, after the six-year-old gelding hit the front going into the straight and never looked like being beaten.

He held off the challenge of last year's winner Distrustful Award and Zulu Angel, who had a photo finish for the podium.

The win marks the second Tasmanian cup win of the season for Asva, taking out the Devonport Cup before a disappointing finish in the most recent Hobart Cup.

Earlier, Perspiration won the day's first feature race for Seven Mile Beach's John Keys, with the trainer going back-to-back as Craig Newitt led Swift Force home in the three-year-old classic.

Victorian horse Steparty came steaming down the outside to win the Hellova Street Stakes, which preceded the Group 3 Vamos Stakes, won by Sanniya as Newitt led the three-year-old effectively from start to finish for his third win of the day.

It marked the seventh win from eight starts for the Barry Campbell-trained horse out of Spreyton, continuing an effective partnership with Newitt.

The meeting's female jockeys got the day off to a strong start as Jabez Johnstone rode the Sarah Cotton-trained In Your Dreams to victory in race one and Codi Jordan held off fast finishers on Wesley Vale trainer Stevenson's horse Who's In Dev.

Stevenson trained back-to-back winners as Newitt expertly rode Agnete around the outside of the pack in race three before Jackson Radley ensured Riverside Cricket Club won $10,000 in the Community Sports Series on board Vino Novello.
