A new direct flight is set to launch in the north, linking Launceston and Canberra without a stop.

The new route will start on May 6 and allow travellers to pick from four different flights through the week, one each on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Those flights will leave Canberra at 11.30am, arrive in Launceston at 1.20pm, then return to Canberra at 1.50pm, landing at 3.35pm.
Minister for Tourism Jane Howlett said the new route was a vote of confidence for the region and increased airline capacity by 14,000 seats annually.
"This is extraordinary, and it's a game changer," she said.
"What we've on the back of the events that we've had over the past couple of months with Beerfest, Festivale, Party in the Paddock, Foo Fighters, a huge injection into Launceston and, of course, regional Tasmania."
The state government backed the new route through its Aviation Attraction Fund.
Link Airways' network strategy and development manager Jeff Boyd said the airline had its eye on Launceston for a while, following the success of direct flights between Canberra and Hobart.
"Launceston was always on our radar, but we just needed a little bit of encouragement, a little bit of help to get across," he said.
"Hobart for us has been such a success. It's six days a week, similar time, similar schedule, to what we're going to be operating here in Launceston, and we've now found that there's a real regular passenger base that's not just government travel, not just the politicians.
"There's this unbelievable family connection between Tasmania and the ACT."
Ms Howlett said in the past 12 months, Tasmania has welcomed more than 60,000 passengers via direct flights from Hobart to Canberra.
She said the new route would also be a boost for businesses in the winter months.
"Tasmania's tourism brand is strong, and it is important that we continue this momentum as competition in the tourism market intensifies," Ms Howlett said.
"This direct flight increases our capacity in shoulder and winter months, perfectly aligning with our Off Season campaign designed to drive visitation during May through August."
Flights are on sale and start at $339.
