A man has sustained serious injuries after he was struck by a car outside a popular night-time venue, Tasmania Police say.

Emergency services were called to Best Street, Devonport, around 9.25pm on Friday to reports of a crash between a pedestrian and a vehicle near the Molly Malones Irish Pub.

The pedestrian, a 44-year-old man, was taken to hospital with what police believed to be serious injuries.

Police are now investigating the incident, and the driver is assisting with their enquiries.

Best Street was closed for about two hours after the incident until early on Saturday morning.
