The body of a mother allegedly murdered by her own son has been found in a mountainous national park.
Ante Popovic was charged with the murder of his 58-year-old mother on June 11 after she failed to return to her home in Sydney's northwest.
Police charged the 33-year-old before finding the woman's body, which they confirmed on Friday morning had been located in the Blue Mountains National Park.
The body was found in bushland near Mt Banks Rd on Sunday afternoon after a multi-agency search that included police, fire services and SES volunteers.
Police said the body was not yet formally identified, but was believed to be the missing mother.
The woman's family contacted police on June 9 after she had not been seen for around a day.
They told officers they last heard from the woman about 4.50pm on June 8, when she told them she was meeting her son in Winston Hills, in Sydney's west.
Speaking after Popovic was charged with murder, Superintendent Barry Vincent said the accused was estranged from his mother, who looked after her elderly parents.
"It'll be alleged they were meeting there to talk about perhaps borrowing some money," he said at the time.
"When the family were informed of (Popovic's arrest) they were obviously shocked."
The woman's car was found in the suburb where she went missing about 9.30am on June 9.
Two days later, detectives arrested Popovic after finding him sitting in a white Toyota Hilux in bushland along Parnell Fire Trail in Tomerong, south of Nowra.
Tomerong is about four hours drive from where the body was located.
He allegedly had his mother's phone on him when arrested, Supt Vincent said.
Popovic did not apply for bail when he appeared in court on June 12 and will return to court on August 13.
